Forestry Technician

FORESTRY TECHNICIAN: (GS-4/5 with full potential at GS-7)

Salary: $31,208 to $34,916 per year

Duty Location: Campton, NH

This position is part of the forestry group on the Pemigewasset Ranger District of the White Mountain National Forest.

Performs a variety of routine and frequently complex tasks involving techniques and practices relating to natural resources management programs, (i.e., timber and silviculture).

Completes variety of complex and recurring technical duties individually or as a crew member or leader, in support of the unit's forestry management program.

Monitor and oversees cruising and marking of timber in support of timber harvest activities.

Prepare general logging plans and verify logging system settings in support of timber harvest activities.

Analyze forest conditions in areas affected by drought, insects, disease, wind damage, or fire as part of quality control measures.

Determine sale boundaries, proper location of logging roads, acceptable marking and cutting methods, stumpage prices, and the requirements for brush disposal, erosion control, and stand improvement in accordance with agency directives.

Prepare and ensure quality documentation such as detailed maps, advertisements, prospectus, and sample contracts in support of timber sale and harvest activities.

Prepare a summary of all records acceptable for final appraisal, sale contract preparation, as part of subsequent timber management activities.


A recent graduate who has, within the previous two years, completed a qualifying Associate's, Bachelors, Masters, Doctorate, professional, vocational or technical degree or certificate program. Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation have up to six years after degree completion to apply.
