Assistant Director, Disability Support Services

This position is responsible for establishing student disability status and eligibility for accommodations, reviewing disability documentation, establishing accommodation plans, coordinating services, and providing advice, advocacy, and referrals to students. Additionally, this position has overall responsibility for coordination, implementation, and provision of all services necessary to provide accommodations for students with disabilities under the mandates of section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), state of Alabama, and university policies and procedures.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Disability Services, or a closely-related field, is preferred; Two years of experience working with a diverse student body with documented disabilities is required; Five years of experience in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Higher Education Administration, or a related field is preferred; A minimum of two years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting is preferred; Experience with assistive technology preferred.
