Electric Meter Engineer

Job Family and Group: Transmission and Distribution
Reports to: Manager, Metering Services
Location: Dayton, Ohio (Dayton Service Building)
Shift: 1st Shift

The Electric Meter Engineer position is to be AES Ohio’s metering expert. This position will become the in-house subject matter expert on our existing metering equipment deployed; from residential metering to interconnect meters. This position will be responsible for programming electronic meters and will learn AES Ohio’s interval metering software as well as future applications including but not limited to: MDM, CIS, OMS, ADMS, AMI Head-End System, Field Service Management application. The Meter Engineer will also learn all ANSI standards as they pertain to metering and ensure AES Ohio is in compliance with these standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide research, analysis, recommendations, and technical project leadership for, initiatives and activities within metering.
  • Perform project management which may include evaluating bid proposals, assessing material needs, coordinating the delivery of applicable materials and budgeting.
  • Providing technical assistance and guidance, but not limited to, computer systems, network environments, AMR and AMI Infrastructure, MDM, MV90 and metering.
  • Prepares and/or reviews contracts, standards, and budgets for both capital and O&M.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings to provide technical guidance, background, and assistance.
  • Work with meter manufacturers on development & troubleshooting issues
  • Remains current with all metering systems.
  • Effectively collaborate with internal teams to deliver on expectations.
  • Work with the metering team on budgeting for both O&M and capital. 
  • Develop and implement new metering standards.
  • Assist with metering programs, software product specifications, development, testing and training.
  • Participate in and contribute to product training. 
  • Develop and implement annual plans to improve performance and effectiveness. 
  • Backup Metering Services Team Leader as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college and/or university. Study emphasis in power is preferred
  • Three years of related experience is preferred. Experience in the electric industry is a plus.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation and Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan over a short and long-term focus
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make sound business decisions.
