Technology Systems Analyst I - Network Administration

 $5,389.80 - $6,550.27 / Month

THE POSITION: This is a multi-discipline classification for use in Technology Services (TS) Division. Under general supervision, incumbents may be assigned to perform a wide variety of duties in the support, planning, design, implementation, and security of the specified discipline. This class performs tasks of a more technical and analytical nature for areas in the City’s communication, geographic information systems, networking, infrastructure, server, systems administration, programming, web, and media.
 
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position’s essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting. While the majority of duties assigned to a position typically fall within one of the following areas, incumbents may also be assigned duties that cross multiple disciplines based on department needs, staffing levels and in order to provide job enrichment opportunities. Essential Duties (Network Administration): Performs a variety of complex tasks related to planning, design, security, and support of the City-wide network. Monitors the configuration and operation of the network infrastructure; monitors network performance and capacity and publishes related report. Assists with network infrastructure planning and implementations, including but not limited to: requirements gathering, design, customization, testing and enhancements; assists with designing a secure network (e.g. firewalls, remote access systems) which address City Security Policies, non-City networks, and remote access for City employees and vendors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applications will be accepted only for those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED City Application, Supplemental Questionnaire, Resume, and Certificates that they possess the minimum qualifications which include:
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in a related field; AND
· Two years recent experience in the appropriate discipline equivalent to Technology Systems
Technician; OR
· An equivalent combination of training, certification and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
· An Analyst level certification must be obtained within one (1) year of appointment.
· Valid California class “C” driver’s license.
· Possession of an approved TS Analyst level certification in relevant discipline.
· Vendor or industry certifications include but are not limited to those from APCO, Cisco, FCC and
Juniper
·  Must be able to pass an extensive police background check.
 
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Network planning, design and engineering principals, practices, terminology, trends and proper utilization for large complex organizations. Communications hardware and software such as routers, CSU/DSU’s, WAN and LAN switches, network servers, computer integrated voice systems. Communications, Network, and Packet switching technologies and protocols. Network management protocols, tools, and systems. Ability to: Troubleshoot network communication problems. Perform traces on network segments to collect data on utilization and performance and to troubleshoot complex issues. Design an effective network based on information learned during requirements gathering. Make security recommendations that balance the need to protect City electronic assets versus the need for departments to access network resources within and outside of the City’s LAN infrastructure. Monitor network performance and capacity. Physical Conditions or Special Working Conditions: Standard office environment and conditions, including lifting and placement of computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be willing to work long hours, weekends, and holidays during emergencies. Must be willing to work in confined areas, heights up to 75 feet, and with exposure to unpleasant conditions. Must be willing to work outdoors. Must possess sufficient strength, stamina, and flexibility to crawl under counters, climb ladders, and pull cables in floor ducts and overhead cable trays with both hands.

EXAMINATION: (Weighted 100%): Week of September 27, 2021 (Tentatively):  The method of examination may include one or more of the following: written exam; oral exam; evaluation of education, training, experience or other qualifications as shown by the application, or by other information submitted, or by the record; questionnaires submitted to references; or any other appropriate measure of fitness. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. ***NOTE: Admission to the Examination(s) may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
