Experienced Nurse Practitioner

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking an experienced Occupational Nurse Practitioner to join our team in upstate New York. Selected candidate will apply nursing and patient care principles directed toward conserving the health of workers and maintaining a safe and healthful environment within NNL. The essential duties may include:
  • Perform occupational health related tasks including evaluating occupational injuries and illness, coordinating medical care, performing medical surveillance examinations, counseling and educating employees, organizing and maintaining medical records, and reviewing test results. Familiarity with drug screens, breath alcohol, audiograms, and spirometry will be needed.
  • Carry out proper treatment for minor or acute injury. Ability to provide initial treatment and triage more serious injury or illness.
  • Coordinate and participate in medical response to emergency situations, both real and drills.
  • Determine and arrange proper disposition of employees (hospital, physician, home or return to work).
  • Provide leadership and work with the safety department in the determination of real and potential health problems and hazards at the workplace through methods including work-site surveys and analysis of OSHA logs and accident reports.
  • Work independently to maintain optimum levels of health, reduce absenteeism, reduce medical disabilities and contain medical costs.
  • Develop and prepare documentation such as nursing procedures, capital equipment requests, and statistics for Medical Director approval.
  • Provide leadership in the formulation and administration of NNL's overall health programs.
  • Support, mentor, and coach other Occupational Health Professionals. May act as the lead Occupational Health Professional and provide leadership direction and technical advice to less experienced members of the Occupational Health Staff.

Required Skills *

Senior: 
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree program and a minimum of five years of relevant experience; and
  • Board Certified as an NP in a primary care specialty or Board Certification in Occupational Medicine within 3 years after start of employment and state licensure and DEA registration

Principal: 
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree program and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; and 
  • Board Certified as an NP in a primary care specialty or Board Certification in Occupational Medicine within 3 years after start of employment and state licensure and DEA registration
