Social Worker - Children's Mental Health Team

If so, the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare Division of Behavioral Health is seeking a part-time limited service (benefit eligible) Social Worker to join our Caldwell team. This position requires good knowledge of human services principles and practices and will support the Children’s Mental Health Team with providing case management.
This position will work approximately 26 hours per week - hours are flexible weekly based on client's needs. However, will be completed typically Monday through Friday from 8-5 with occasional evening hours based on the needs of the clients. Currently, this job is flexible in terms of remote work versus on-site work. 

This is a limited-service position. Length of limited-service appointments are determined by the availability of funds such as grants, alternative funding sources and/or timeframes such as pilot projects, alternative funding sources or program termination.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Example of Duties
  • Develop and update treatment plans
  • Complete and Update Child and Adolescents Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment
  • Help families complete and process paperwork
  • Help with case management and out of home placement required paperwork 
  • Evaluate and review recent assessments completed by CMH contract to then determine mental health supports needed for the youth and family
  • Engage with Medicaid and Optum to obtain and coordinate services for the child in the treatment planning process
  • Collaborate with community partners, mental health supports, and the family to reach stability for the child
  • Assess for risk and safety issues per agency mandates and priority; meeting with youth and families in office as well as in the community (i.e. home setting, Detention, school, hospital setting)
  • Coordinate with and initiating referrals to community partner agencies as needed

  • Requires current Licensure as a Social Worker in Idaho in accordance with Idaho Code 54-3201 et.seq. Licensure information can be found through the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses at

  1. Knowledge and experience working with children who have a serious emotional disturbance. Gained by one year of experience working with children who have a serious emotional disturbance.

  2. Knowledge of the Child and Adolescents Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment. Gained by one year of experience working with CANS assessment.
  3. Experience in working with multiple stakeholders including community providers. Gained by one year of experience working with multiple stakeholders including community providers.
