Temporary Permit Technician

The City of Steamboat Springs is pleased to announce a job opening in our Planning Department as a Permit Technician

This is a temporary position with an anticipated duration of six months, however it has the potential to be extended or eventually become full-time. Work can be performed remotely for the duration of the temporary position.

The qualified individual:


Short-Term Rental Licensing
Responsible for processing applications related to short-term rentals. Responsibilities may include: 
  • Processing short-term rental license applications and issuing licenses within the scope, authority and responsibility assigned.
  • Processing legal nonconforming registration applications for short-term rentals and issuing approvals within the scope, authority and responsibility assigned.
  • Assisting costumers with understanding the application process and requirements.
  • Assisting customers with identifying and understanding applicable code provisions with the intent of avoiding violations to the extent possible. 

 Supporting Responsibilities
  • Collaborating in the organization and maintenance of records, files, logs and maps related to short-term rental licensing. 
  • Receiving applicable fees.
  • Compiling a variety of data regarding codes; preparing daily, monthly and annual reports of activities.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent; and
  2. One year experience in a position working with the public; or
  3. Any equivalent combination and education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Ability to work with the public in a professional manner while consistently enforcing the codes.
  2. Ability to deal with angry or upset persons in a calm, professional manner. 
  3. Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. Some skill in the operation of most of the tools and equipment listed below.
  5. Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors.
  8. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  9. Ability to learn the City's geography.

Other:
Compensation is $25.09 - $32.70/hour and is dependent upon qualifications and experience. EOE.
