Program Consultant I Mentoring Coordinator

About the Position: PC I - Mentoring Coordinator, Req.# 207574

This position will be located at our Lansing Correctional Facility, in Leavenworth County.

Compensation: $41,870.40 to $47,257.60/Annual ($20.13 to $22.72/Hr.)*

* Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Thought this position is unclassified, pay is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 24, Steps 10-15.



Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:  This position provides services through the Mentoring4Success program at Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF).
 

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Mentors: Recruit, screen, match, train, monitor, guide and support mentors. 
  • This includes making information about M4S available; processing applications; and monitoring and guiding matches for safety and effectiveness. 
  • Ensure that mentors are focusing on risk reduction support including: transportation; community identification; pro social leisure time activities; housing; employment; family dynamics. 
  • Help develop and deliver training, both basic and annual, for mentors. Also ensure mentors receive support, information, responses to questions, all as needed. 
  • Also ensure snap shots are completed, entered, and necessary follow up occurs based on content of snap shot. 
  • Ensure mentors are informed about safety and security, and have the appropriate information and response as needed when issues arise with mentees.
  • KDOC staff: Work with KDOC staff (including unit team, parole, reentry, as applicable to work station/area) to ensure referrals are appropriate; to ensure matches are supported; to ensure mentor work is consistent with supervision and case management. 
  • Trouble shoot when issues arise; serve as a resource to staff on how to support the mentor matches.
  • Build capacity of staff to work with mentors as part of case management.
  • Targeted recruitment: As directed, engage in recruitment activities in the area you are assigned, ensuring that recruitment focuses on the risk reduction work needed to be done by mentors. 
  • When recruiting inform potential mentors of the areas of work mentoring focuses on (transportation, community identification, housing, employment, pro social leisure time activities, family dynamics) to ensure mentors are recruited for this work.

  • Data & Reporting: Track and provide data, statistics and reports as requested.
  • Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency’s programs. 
Education may substitute for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • A bachelor’s degree with a degree or major coursework in criminal justice, social services, behavioral science or human services.
  • One (1) year experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience working with offenders or other at-risk population.
  • Experience working with volunteers in a mentoring program, including recruiting, training, selecting, monitoring and supervising community volunteers/mentors.
  • Experience as a trainer/presenter.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills, orally and in writing.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must pass a criminal history check.
