The Emergency Management Department is offering an exciting opportunity for one full time (40 hours per week) immersive summer internship for undergraduate and graduate students studying emergency management. Our Emergency Management team will provide a unique opportunity for a college student to learn how a four-service Utility develops and implements an emergency management program. The student will receive hands-on experience, project collaboration, and independent work as part of this assignment. 

The following learning opportunities are available:
  • Partner in the development and execution of emergency management drills and exercises for the water and energy infrastructure
  • Exposure to all aspects of the Enterprise emergency management program which includes emergency operations and incident management processes
  • Partner in developing Incident Command System training materials and supporting administration of training events
  • Assist in the development of activities for the 2nd annual Colorado Springs Utilities’ Emergency Preparedness Week in August
  • Provide support to achieve 24/7 readiness of the Enterprise Command Center
  • Respond and provide support during Emergency Management Activations
  • Research to enhance Colorado Springs Utilities’ emergency management program
  • Assist in the development and revision of emergency response plans and procedures

*The rate of pay for this internship will be based on the academic year completed of the individual selected

Desirable Qualifications:
•  Familiarity with Emergency Management/ Incident Command System principles and practices
•  Excellent, demonstrable communication skills including presentation skills
•  Computer and related software skills; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
Offering an exciting opportunity for one full-time (40 hours per week, ideally May through end of August) internship for undergraduate and graduate students studying emergency management to function alongside emergency management program professionals supporting crisis management operations, emergency planning, training, and exercises for all four utility services: Water. Wastewater, Natural Gas and Electric. – Put your training to work with us and start building your work experience. 

Who You Are
successful candidates must be actively enrolled in a degree seeking program working towards a degree, or degree concentration in Emergency Management. Additionally, will have strong knowledge that can be applied in the following areas:
  • Emergency Management principles and practices
  • Incident Command System principles and practices
  • Emergency planning principles
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to deliver presentations 
  • Computer and related software skills; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
