It was a very nurturing and understanding internship that I felt comfortable having being only 2 years through school. It was also cool, I love the airport. I had a great supervisor. They also let you meet and network with other interns, which was very fun and rewarding.
What I wish was different
The older engineers were generally stuck in their ways and unwilling to give the interns work. I wish there were a more integrated plan to give interns work and experience.
Advice
Be your own advocate. City government is very slow, so you have to consciously look for work and experience or you'll have a slow and boring summer and learn nothing. I feel like I learned a lot because I was constantly looking for things to do, which gave me a very broad perspective and a ton of great experience. Other interns for the city were content to just coast, and I think their experience was not as rewarding as mine.

Advice
Working with kids requires patients and care. Plus they want to see you having fun too. It makes a difference when you treat the job like a paycheck rather than just showing up and have fun with the kids

DON'T GIVE UP. There is a lot of competition and you will face a lot of rejection. Keep going, you will find a job!
