EchoStar

Supply Chain Intern

June - August 2022 • Littleton, CO

What I liked

Wages, peer mentor, work that is impactful/useful to the company, mature 30-year internship program, project autonomy, meet and greets with company executives, weekly lunch and learns with various departments across the company, emphasis on "opportunity", free RTD light rail tickets.

What I wish was different

The hiring process/timeline was not transparent. Subsidized housing was passable but located 50+ minutes away from the office building.

Advice

There is plenty of opportunity to explore departments other than the one you are assigned to - actively networking will ensure you make the best of your time!

Dev Ops Intern

June - August 2021 • Englewood, CO

What I liked

I really liked the atmosphere and people that I had the opportunity working with. This made my transition into the world of corporation not as stressful as anticipated. It was also awesome to have the chance to work on real life scenarios, while school provides us with the tools we need to be ready to perform in these circumstances it is such a different experience to actually do it yourself. This wasn't a coffee runs or side work that nobody wants to do kind of internship, it was very hands on and you were a part of the team working on problems that were going to be used by DISH customers which I thought was very cool.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different was prior to the internship if I just had a little more knowledge of the team I was going to be working on and my daily duties, as I feel it would have eased my mind a little before the start date. But, as mentioned previously everyone was very helpful so once actually onboarded onto the team this wasn't an issue and I was given explicit instructions on what to do and people were always available if I had any questions or concerns.

Advice

One piece of advise I would give, is ask questions and be curious. You have so many people surrounding you that are willing to help and give a better understanding. I consider myself a life long learner and it is always great to be curious and want to know more about what you're working on.

Advice

Sometimes you just can't be afraid to ask for more responsibility. It shows initiative, determination, and courage. Your mentors and bosses want you to ask for more things to do if you can handle it. Don't be scared!

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

Very thorough internship program. There was a great training program, and plenty of networking/intern events. Additionally, I felt I had a lot of control/discretion over the project I was assigned, while still having people/resources to help out if/when I needed.

What I wish was different

Training program was a little long, would have preferred if it was slightly shorter.

Advice

Take advantage of the many networking/intern events.

Marketing Intern

May - August 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

DISH has a really strong internship program. We had the opportunity to interact with executives in more casual environments, like a BBQ at one of their homes. Housing was also offered, and optional, which was great for people like me who were coming from out of state. Additionally, living with other interns really made my summer so fantastic. There was great camaraderie amount the inters. Overall, the work I was given during the day was involved, and relevant to what I am studying in school, and Denver is a fantastic location. I would definitely recommend spending your summer at DISH.

What I wish was different

There are no women in executive roles at DISH, which was a little discouraging to me, but I understand that it is something they are working on. Also, I would like the company to be a little more socially responsible.

Advice

Explore everything about Denver, do something every weekend! Also, there is so much opportunity to get involved at work and you are really able to get a good understand of what its like to work at DISH.

IT Intern

May - August 2017 • Englewood, CO

What I liked

I loved the fact that I was given a real project with real impact at DISH. They treated us very well, giving us a subsidized housing option in a hotel, lunch and learn opportunities with the founders of the company, lunches with other executives, and we even hiked a mountain with the CEO of the company. It was an incredible summer, and DISH gives you the opportunity to interview with up to 3 departments for a full time offer for after graduation.

What I wish was different

You complete a three week training called Base Camp where you work sales, customer service, and installation. I thought it was really cool and gave us deep insight into the company, but the customer service section was a little drawn out.

Advice

Make sure your voice is heard by your team members and your manager. Offer valuable input - your advice may just go a long way.
